Bubbenhall Village

Village Hall History

The year 2021 marks the Centenary of Village Halls Services in the UK: many village halls having been established in the 1920s. The present Village Hall in Bubbenhall was built in 1986 but prior to that village residents made active use of the Reading Room that was established during the reign of Queen Victoria in 1876. So a village hall facility has a history here spanning almost 150 years. That history and the many fascinating characters who played a part in it has recently been documented in a book by local resident Alan Roe (see right). It is entitled From Reading Room to Village Hall: Windows on Bubbenhall History and is being sold in a limited edition to raise fund for Cancer Research.

Details on how to acquire a copy can be obtained from:

The Management Committee of the Village Hall plans to make an entry in the national Village Halls Domesday Book 2021 that is being prepared to mark the Centenary.

Alan Roe was interviewed on a podcast broadcast by ACRE on 12th March 2021: https://thevillagehallspodcast.com/episodes/
