The "Spout" is an historic feature of the village. It used to be the source of water for many residents. In recent years the flow of the Spout has diminished to a trickle and a project has begun to achieve its reinstatement. It is at one side of the green and the whole area is to be improved.

An active committee is working to revitalise this area of the village. A plan in three phases has been drawn up and work is going on to achieve the funding which is required.

Project update

22nd September 2008

The Project is now in its final initial phase and reaction has been excellent. The summer was spent consolidating the work to date and maintaining it. For the future, the spout outlet will be embellished, through John Green’s good offices, and eventually the dilapidated trough will need to be replaced.

MAINTENANCE
Cyril Hancox, assisted by me has been cutting the grassed area and the hedgerow and he has purchased a ride on mower to facilitate this. He has offered and has been retained for 2009, to cover cutting and maintenance as required for the period from late March to late October.

FUNDING
The granting of a £5000 contribution from WREN has signalled the go ahead for the final phase of this part of the project. The Parish Council has agreed to pay the grant levy of £550 direct to WREN as a condition of their grant. WREN has agreed to invoice the PC so that we can reclaim any VAT.

The funding is planned and will be spent on:

• Finish paving of the bus shelter floor and surround and meeting up with the tarmac pavement.
Stuart Power (our stonemason) has been retained to complete this work at a fee of £800 including contingencies and stone. October/November for completion.

• Establishing a defined driveway entrance to the field. This will involve levelling, membraining, edging and gravelling. We are endeavouring to get the CC to establish the point where the driveway interfaces with the highway. Graham Johnson has been asked for ideas and figures for the driveway. A meeting is planned with Graham Miles of Warwick CC.

• Building a pathway from the pavement and a stone feature location for the bore-hole spring water outlet. Stuart Power has been asked to quote to an outline design.

• The provision of oak benches and a village story board. The “Stoneleigh” oak bench design and source has been identified. We will seek Vicky Airey’s help for the storyboard content.

ELECTRIC POWER AND THE SPRING WATER OUTLET FEATURE
A quotation for £2226.86 has been received from eon to take power from the LHS of Pit Hill going down the hill to the bus shelter area. WE would then be responsible for getting it to the rear of the shelter, providing a meter and a power partner – such as PowerGen and a cabinet. We would then need to get it to the pump in the borehole.
The electricity costs for this service and for possibly Christmas lights is estimated at less than £200pa.
We are in discussion with Smith’s Concrete regarding funding for the foregoing and for the feature outlet. The current knock-on effect of the building recession may impact on this. TBA.
