Information about our Groups from the February 2005 Newsletter

Bubbenhall Entertainments Group In November we had a good turnout for the Murder Mystery evening. There was lots of audience participation encouraged by groups of actors and it was a friendly but competitive event. By the time you read this we will have been entertained by ‘After Dark’ on March 12th . I am expecting a very ‘Black & White’ evening. Our next event will not be until November 19th when we will be hosting a comedy Nite –a first for Bubbenhall - we hope to have a good audience .

See you there !

Post Office Firstly an apology for the first few weeks of business not getting off to a flying start due to technical problems with the Post Office Horizon equipment. Engineers have now fixed the problem and we are open every Friday morning 9:30 am to 1:00 pm . We look forward to seeing you here at the village Hall.

Provost Williams School Funds have had a good boost this year with over £1,100 pounds being raised at the Christmas Fayre and £75:00 at the children’s disco (much fun was had by all the children- very high turnout- it was obviously the place to be) and a further £65:00 raised at the Indulgence evening. We are currently assessing how we use the funds- some large outdoor equipment being considered WE have also taken on the management of the school mini bus and an event in October is being planned especially as a result. The minibus is very useful for school trips and regular sports events, and the school is keen to keep it. Forthcoming events for the diary are:

Saturday 21st May : May Gala day ( 2:00pm- 4:00pm) followed by a B-B-Q and Barn Dance in the evening.

Friday 17th July Children’s Beach party Disco.

Friendly Club. We started off the new year with a combined AGM and birthday celebration of the club. Instead of the usual tea and biscuits, we enjoyed a wonderful fruit pavlova !! To help work off the excesses of Christmas , our next meeting was an exercise session – not too energetic.
In February we went to the Smithy in Church Lawford for our first pub lunch of the year. This was well supported: we all had a nice lunch, and it saved cooking that eveing which can’t be bad! Our second meeting in February was a talk and slide show about Bubbenhall in the ice age , which was very interesting.
We arranged a Bingo session for our first March meeting in the Village Hall and then because Easter is so early this year this meeting will be last before Easter. This will be our Eater Lunch in the Village Hall – a three course meal with all the trimmings and with musical entertainment by Colin Squire. We always have a day trip out in the summer, and this year we are planning to go to Gloucester Docks on Monday June 6th Hopefully this will be an enjoyable day out, especially if the weather is kind. We are constantly seeking new members, so if you like the sound of what we do and fancy joining us on alternate Monday afternoons. Please contact Chris Dunne 02476 302481

Bubbenhall Rainbows. At the end of last term we celebrated Christmas with other Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from Rugby Division with a Christingles services held at All Saints Church Stretton where the girls and leaders made Christingles during the service whilst the Christmas story was told with carols and readings. We ended the term with a Christmas party which was enjoyed by everyone.
In January we held another party, this time it had a Disney theme as we said our goodbyes to Rachel aka Otter who will be going to live in America with her family very soon. Rachel will be greatly missed by us all for her hard work and enthusiasm during the meetings.
On February 26th we joined with the Bubbenhall Brownies and Guides to hold a bring and buy coffee morning in aid of the Tsunami victims, and although the turnout was disappointing those who came along were more than generous and raised £275:00 which is being sent ouit through Janice and Andrew Simkins to people rebuilding shelters for the homeless. The amount has since risen to £305:00 due to generous donations received. The 5th march found us fundraising again. This time in Rugby as part of this year’s Thinking Day Knightlow district organised a chocolate Tombola in aid of the Guide Friendship fund for Guides in Grenada, who were effected by the hurricanes in November. We are also planning to do something for comic relief later this month . Rainbows is a pre- Brownies group for girls aged 5-7 years. For more information contact Margaret Robinson 02476 305931 or Dawn Hands 02476 306073.

Mother and Toddler Group
Babies and pre-school aged children who enjoy fun and games, activities and juice and biscuits ( oh and bring along your mum or dad !) . Yes as usual we are recruiting for new members ( because more the merrier) There must be children and mums out there who would appreciate the chance to make a few new friends ( and a mess that dad will never know about !) . Talking about mess, you should have seen the fun we had opening the presents that father Christmas brought along to the Christmas party ! Thank you father Christmas We all had a fantastic time eating party food, playing on the bouncy castle and watching Uncle Sid’s magic tricks – the time just flew by. As we are on the subject of Christmas thanks to those who provided the jars and helped run the Tombola stall at the Christmas Fayre- it was a great success. Still onwards ad upwards, lets look forward to the summer, when the next party will be just as good fun and hopefully, if the weather permits, it will outside.
So the promise of fun and games, parties and plenty of new friends, you need a really good excuse not to come along! Call Lori on 02476 305535 or better still just come along

Bubbenhall Brownies:
We have been very busy over the last few months. A few of us spent the night in Stretton Village Hall practising our beauty skills at a Pink Sleepover, face packs, nail polishing and of course sleeping bag races made for a very noisy and fun night. Last week we hosted a Thinking Day event for the Marton and Bubbenhall Brownies and spent our time doing crafts. Games and singing from overseas. The Bubbenhall Girls made friendship bracelets and gave them to the Marton Brownies. Christmas cakes were made in baked bean tins and several meetings were spent lining the tins, mixing the cakes and decorating them. Hopefully they tasted as good as they looked. We are saying farewell to four Brownies before Easter They have chosen to go bowling for their last meeting, then after Easter they are all going to different Guide units depending on where they live. A big thank you must go to our two Young leaders Sarah and Becky, who are studying hard but still manage to come to brownies. Good luck in your exams girls, you are both fantastic. We have a long waiting list at the moment, if you have a daughter who may be interested then please contact Beverley Suffell on 01788 811643

Ryton Pools Country Park Café We will be celebrating our first birthday at Easter. Since opening in ASpril 2004 the café hads built up a strong base of regular visitors both of the two and four legged varieties. Customer feedback remains positive and encouraging. Week-ends are becoming quite busy and the half term week was particularly successful but this may have had something to do with the special half price hot dog promotion!!
This month we welcome a new member of staff, Kath, to the team. The café is open daily from 10:30 am. We look forward to welcoming both regular and new customers during the coming months and are keeping our fingers crossed for a long hot summer. Gina and John

Village Hall Verandah Fund Thank you to everyone who took advantage of our service of delivering your Christmas cards locally around the village. We were certainly kept busy and goodness knows how many cards we delivered (or how many miles we walked) but we raised a fantastic £95.10 towards the Verandah fund. Thank you for your support. Margaret Robinson and Gill Prudhoe.

St Giles’ Bellringers Towner News Rugby deanery, part of the Coventry Diocesan guild of Church Bellringers, held its AGM on Saturday 12th February. Bubbenhall was pleased to host the afternoon ringing at St Giles, when we were able to welcome over forty visitors. A short service was then held at All Saints Church, Stretton-on –Dunsmore, after which a delicious ‘ringers tea’ was provided by the Stretton ringers The business meeting concluded around 7pm followed by further ringing.

Bubbenhall Youth Club is appealing for more youngsters and additional adults to help. There is a danger that the club may have to close if there is no more support. Contact Pat Long 024 7630 4653 or Anne Kelland 024 7630 3470.

Malt Shovel Social Club Thank you to everyone who took part in the Boxing Day walk last year. The raffle and auction helped afterwards to raise £1610.00 for the Myton Hospice. The Malt Shovel has a new landlord and landlady and we are hoping to continue with the usual fund raising as much as possible. Contact Mary Long for further information
