The Plaque in memory of Alan Rowland Gibson (1929 - 2001)

A plaque was unveiled in the Hall to the memory of Alan Gibson on 29th March 2003. Alan took the lead in the building of the Village Hall. Alan came to the village in 1982. His potential for leadership was spotted early on and he was persuaded to become the chairman of the Reading Room Committee, taking on this decaying Victorian legacy along with a bank balance of £224. Alan immediately formed the Committee that would fund and build a new Village Hall for Bubbenhall within three years. Despite their initial scepticism Alan pulled everyone together and the new Village Hall was built and formally opened in 1987. Alan continued to run the operation with military precision and efficiency and almost single-handedly raised tens of thousands of pounds for the village with projects including a major extension to the hall, a multi-surface playing court, emergency heating and cooking facilities and, most recently, additional car parking facilities. He once said that his Chindits military training prepared him well for the perils of village politics.
